Adultery

The voluntary, consensual sexual activity or intercourse by a married person with someone other than their legal spouse. It can be used as grounds for divorce under fault-based divorce laws.

In Ancient Rome, adultery was punishable by exile and confiscation of property. Husbands were required to divorce adulterous wives and could kill the wife's partner under certain circumstances. Fathers were allowed to kill daughters and their partners in adultery.

In some Muslim nations, adultery still attracts the death penalty.
